We were lucky enough to have a visit from Geoff Jones today. Geoff is a co-worker of Anne’s from The Society for the Protection of NH Forests, and is pretty handy with a chainsaw. Pretty handy is an understatement. Geoff is the New England Society of American Forester’s 2006 recipient of the Austin Cary Practicing Professional Award. Not to be confused with the Austin Powers Groovy Baby, Yeah! Award, although I bet he could win that one too, if he tried. Anne had asked him to come over and help us take down the trees needed to get in our power line from the road. Well, he didn’t help us do it, he just did it himself.
While Anne and I spun our wheels all day trying to figure out the exact center line of the foundation and debated ratios and the Pythagorean Theorem, Geoff took down trees of various sizes, dropping them exactly where he wanted to. It was a true show of woodsman skill. Chesterfield supervised the whole operation, making sure Anne and I were well aware of who is
really in charge.
Now we are ready for power—it should be arriving by the middle of next week. Until then, we'll keep firing up the generator.
